It's a three note motif of course.
A motif is a small idea, or theme. It can be rhythmic, melodic, or both. It usually relates to the contour of the melody (note, up a fourth, down a half step), or rhythmically how the notes are played (quarter, 8th half).
As this pertains to music, our ears long for repetition with variation. So to build a motif, and use that as the basis for a solo....melody...or song to revolve around is a good thing.
A good example of a motif is beethoven's 5th symphony.
DUN DUN DUN DUNNNNNN, everyone knows that tune;
zhcR1ZS2hVo
The entire symphony is based on manipulating and transposing that little melodic/rhythmic motif.
