hey. ive learned all of the 7 modes for guitar, but when i play they all seem to sound basically the same. i want to figure out how each can be used in their own individual ways. like people say lydian is great for satch and mixolydian for vai, but i want to learn how to get everything out of each scale that i can and make them each sound unique, you know? could someone help me out?

Its not really the mode that makes the sound, its the way you use it. If you played D dorian, for example, you need to make sure that you put the emphasis on the dorian notes (b7, b3) otherwise, it will just end up sounding like C ionian, or one of the other relative scales, depending on what tones you emphasize. Does this answer your question? I know a bit about theory, but I'm no substitute for JonR or Fendershredder, you should ask them about this if I didn't help.
