Hey, all you drummers out there...
I'm thinking about playing a little drums myself. However, I worry about if it'll interfere with my guitar playing. It's still of utmost importance to me that I get pretty good at guitar, and if drumming has the potential to disrupt that I don't want to get in on it. What do you think, Jammers?

I would assume if it has any effect at all on your guitar playing, it would be for the better. Even guitarists need good 'timing', which, by pursuing any drumming, is BOUND to improve.
So, 'disruptive'? I'd say no. Go ahead with some drumming

I've known two exceptional guitarists who started out as drummers.
And even in the opposite direction, Dave Grohl started out as a guitarist.
Then was a drummer with Nirvana. And of course is again a guitarist.
I say he should make up his darned mind!

I gotta agree with Sean. While I am first and foremost a guitarist by nature, I learned how to play drums at age 15. When our drummer couldn't make rehearsals, I tinkered away keeping a simple beat that the other guitarist and bassist could keep time to. So, in a way, playing the drums helped the band keep jamming, and I learned to appreciate the complexity of playing fills and always thinking ahead of the beat. And that in turn of thinking ahead helped my guitar playing as well.
Also, with learning how to play drums, I was able to pass down lessons to Darien when he got his first kit.
Life's too short to limit yourself to only one thing. The more you expand, the more you grow musically and creatively.

I remember when I used to jam in Florida at this guys house; that was kind of a requirement to jam.. was everybody take turns and play the other instruments as it was extremely helpful. So we all had to play drums for a couple of songs then the bass then back to the guitar. and just kept rotating till the wee hrs of the night. No one ever showed up with keys or horns though the occasional harmonica was a great change of pace lol. At that point we were all into 80's metal and arena rock so the harp was a bit different so to speak for that genre. Playing all of the different instruments definitely helps and I would love to have those days back. Peace, Shawn
