Next saturday will be my new band's debut...and i'm the singer...yikes...
i've played a couple shows as just a guitarist with limited back-up vocals, but i've never been the lead singer. to make matters even more interesting, i'm also the lead guitarist, so i'm trying to throw in creative licks over the music WHILE singing...gonna be one hell of an adventure, i'll tell you that...anybody got any tips for me before i go put myself up on stage?

ya, I think the best peice of advice for anyone going on stage, be it singing, dancing, playing guitar, acting w/e is to just do it. Get on stage and do it! If you need to focus on something other than the people pick a spot in the back of the room and just concentrate on the spot. Oh an break a leg.:)

I go for the 'concentrating on a spot at the back of the room' too. Just don't look anyone in the eyes, look at the tops of their heads and you'll do fine.
Anymore I concentrate on what I'm doing 'cause if I see what other people are doing I get distracted, ya know, those people who need to take a leak during a song, or talking over what we're doing, etc.
Once at Church I sang a song I had written that morning (Father's day) and was so focused on how I played the chords, sang the melody, and did the breaks that I didn't realize that everyone in the congregation was crying intensly! I only noticed after I finished the song and then I broke down!
The song is called 'My Dad and I'. I wrote it a few years ago and it is still my favorite.

That 'top of the head' thing sounds like good advice. Break a leg man! Let us know how it turns out.

You better be practicing your show, beginning to end, until you can do it without stopping. The you'll be ready.

Just go and have fun.. I tried doing both guitar and lead sing at the same time..To this day, I still can't do both for very long before losing my concentration.
Backup I CAN do..but not main.
Good luck on the gig!! Rock 'em all.( I was going to say rock 'em dead, but in light of DBD's passing, I'll stick with that).
RIP DBD.

KJ, dude, don't worry about your gig, especially with the light of dime's demise, it's the trip home that'll usually kill ya!
No really, if you worry about things that haven't happened yet you're gonna miss out on what's happening now!
Kick it and have a blast.

oh man, the gig was awesome...we got beat by some emo band who only won because they brought more people than us...whatever, the crowd was freakin intense!!! we got a mosh pit going (for some reason) even though our music doesn't necessarily call for it...people rushed the stage after the show to shake our hands and tell us good job, it was incredible...even the sound lady thought we were good...oh, and we paid our respects to dimebag, which really fired some people up...all in all, gig = fun
