I agree- pics of Razz on every page!

In the "go advanced" are we need a button for youtube videos like TDPRI has which puts in so you just put the link in there and the video box is then on your post.
Or, have a way the website can sense a youtube link and automaticly put the video up
so this..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ugk16gGiWlE
turns into this automaticly
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Ugk16gGiWlE&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Ugk16gGiWlE&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

I think it'd be a cool idea to have a central page where we can go to listen to members music. Maybe list it by genre? There might already be something like this I'm unaware of but I haven't come across it.
It seems like everyone's links are scattered and only appear in threads.

Not a bad idea of listing by genre.

Perhaps a more obvious post or posts regarding the more technical side of posting audio and video. Namely embedding that soundclick player and correctly linking songs into it. I'm not a complete noob but am having trouble making that work. I did finally figure out how to do the video embedding in the soundcheck section. That might be a good place to have a sticky thread that specifically gives a tutorial on each?
Either that or I can keep trying in there. =)

...and of course if I had actually taken the time to look in there I would have seen that this has been addressed probably a thousand times already. Sorry for acting my age. Carry on.

I thought I remembered seeing a YouTube icon up to the right above the response box, by the SC icon, that helped embed those. Like the Image icon does.
Wrapping the url in the code tags isn't hard, but wasn't there one there before?

Hey Keith i just thought of something. I think the language filter should be able to be "bypassed." Only available to members 18 and older. The filter bypass would only work for the particular user who wants it off, and it remains on for all members who have the filter set to "on."
just an idea, let me know what you think.

Editing old posts -
Why can't I do this? This is very frustrating because if I have for example linked pictures, or other personal information in an old post I can't remove it without the help of an admin, and I have a few posts on my trail so it may be a lot to do if I were to do this. Also I've been on here for 4 years, my first posts were laughable in comparison to what they are now, I would like to edit some of this.

just an idea, let me know what you think.I'm not keen on changing the language filter JD. It would be too easy to pick through and change birth dates to access it. I'll ponder on this one and talk to the Mods and see what they say. For the most part, I don't make any changes unless everyone is okay with it.

The reason why we don't allow either deletion or editing after a certain point in time is it screws up the post count for anyone quoting and causes a bigger headache for us to fix.
If we allow everyone to edit after a certain time, things can get quite chaotic for the VB.
So if you have things you need done, just call on us and we'll take care of it and make sure everything is okay;).

Ok. Does removing quoted text alter the post count of the person who quoted? (I might have some stuff to take care off, but it's so much I need some time to collect it all, but you don't mind, do you? :) )
Off to bed,

How about instead of banning members, make a new section for the troublemakers that's kinda like a jail. Restrict their membership to only that forum instead of banning them, and of course, make it so non-banned people cannot post in there. It would turn out some very interesting threads I think.

+1 its very hard to get banned and if you do it's usually because the member was a total spammer or troll. IMO if someone is enough of a Dbag to get banned then they have no right to be on this site. As far as i can tell JS is the most friendly guitar site i know of and it should stay that way.
But i can totally see where youre coming from Resonant.

99 percent of the spam is from bots, not people. So there would be no entertainment value in it.
Besides, what if a member clicks a spam link and their computer gets trashed? They'd blame Keith. LOL

Well, IMO, there are plenty of people who are still here that are much bigger trolls and D-bags than most of the people I can think of who have been banned.

Just to clarify what JD mentioned. The way it works around here is, depending on the severity of an offense, most will get a polite PM as a reminder of the rules the first time around. If things continue, the member/s get a second warning via Email with a 3 day timeout from the site. They can view, but not post. If a member under suspension re-signs, then they are gone for good no questions answered.
Maybe you've seen some "new" members banned even before they post. These are the spammers getting the boot because the staff are so diligent on checking out IP's and Emails before hand and closing the door before they can get in.
But it takes a lot to get banned on the first time in, and the regs around here know the rules anyways, so it's really quiet in regards to that.
The reason for a ban is to keep the offending member from gaining access to the site at all costs. Giving them a room to continue is defeating the purpose of banning them.

Not that we would need any changes in the site to make this happen, but I always thought having friendly competitions aimed at different skill levels would be cool. Prizes wouldn't even be needed. Bragging rights would be cool enough.

I think thats a great idea. More fun, more traffic, more happy people:)!
There could be a seperate section for it and everything.
I think we would benefit in our playing aswell as it is a good motivation for us to up our game.

I could do that. Even though we have the Showcase section, I could amend a section just for colabs and competitions.
Let me clear it with Sixstring and the other mods first and see where things go from there.

I know this goes outside the scope of the question, but howzabout some kind of gear database where we can all track what we have? :)
Or maybe just increase the character limit under the "Gear" section of the user profile. :D

I am a new member, but I have been a lurker for a long time. I have noticed that its kind of a free for all in the for sale section. I have a couple of recommendations for that:
1. Have different sections within the for sale area, for example:
For Sale would have Acoustic, Electric, Amps and Gear, and Other
2. Or perhaps a dropdown box that the thread creator would mark as FS(for Sale), WTB(Want To Buy), TT(To Trade)
I beleive some combination of the above would allow members to be seen and sell more efficiently, and would help those that are keeping their eyes out for specific gear. IMHO :D
