Best way to mute while 2 hand tapping

Ive been having a couple problems with this technique. I can get the notes to sound out and they are pretty even, but my muting technique feels very clumsy whenever I switch frets.... I'm talking both hands.

FYI, if it matters, when I tap I pull up towards my chest on the pull off and not down towards the ground. I have considerably more success pulling up than pulling down when tapping, which seems backwards, but works for me.

I've been anchoring my right hand with my fingers on either side of the neckwhile I tap, but it makes me sluggish when moving the right hand around to different notes.

With the left hand I usually do a thumb over if im tapping on the lower strings...

Everyone seems to perform this technique a little different. Are there any good videos, or training exercises to shake myself of the awkardness I'm experiencing. I want to make my transitions cleaner when I'm doing a tapping run. Any ideas?

Well i p/o your way alot when using all fingers, but it is much easier to p/o downwards when just using the one or two finger tapping and easier to mute the underneth string as well and rest the palm of the tapping hand to mute the other strings.

All the best, Paul.

i two hand tap using the pick to tap the fret and pull off, it sounds sharper and cleaner. But my muting technique uses my palm/wrist to mute. I rest my palm/wrist on the strings im not playing and then tap from there and move where i need to.

if that makes any sense

Some people use String Mutes to keep things clean.

Try a Scrunchie. (Those elastic Hair Band things girls use).

Wrap one over the headstock of your guitar, and just let it rest behind the Nut. Whenever you need it for Muting, just slide it over the Nut and it will Mute the Strings and keep them from unwanted ringing.

Budda's scrunchie trick works, but if you want to use open strings you can use the webbing between your thumb and index finger to mute notes.
