looking for songs to learn...

alright i've been playing for about a year, and i'm pretty good. i play acoustic and electric guitars, but i dont sing at all!!! I know a lot of riffs and chord proggressions but i'd like to learn instrumental/solo guitar songs that dont require singing to not get bored of.

I can already play these songs in the same catogorie:

Under The Bridge intro by The Red Hot Chilis
intro to Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin
Signe by Eric Clapton
Inlaw Josie Whales by Phish
...and thats about it.

Anyone know any songs like this where there is no singing. thanks alot.

Welcome ot the forum!

Get into the blues, Improv. Download some blues backing tracks and start learning the blues progression and blues scales for improv/soloing.

Eric Johnson does a lot of instrumental stuff, but it would probably be real challanging at 1 year experience.

I am at one year myself, but I focus on rythym and singing.

"Silent Lucidity" Queensrhyce

"Iron Man" Black Sabbath

"Pocket Full of Shells" Rage Against the Machine

The rhythym on pocket full of shells is probably not exactly right, I didn't pay it much attention. Basically though you repeat the 12th fret and the open fret, once in a while switching quickly from the 12th fret to the 11th fret and back to the 12th on the sixth string. Works real good on a bass.

Chuba Wuba or something like that:

"Touch Me" Samantha Fox

---------------------------------------
---------------------------------------
---------------------------------------
---------------------------------------
--2-2-2-2------------------------------
-----------3-3-3-3--5-5-5-5---2-2-2-2-

Some of the Lyrics: I was hungry for love, I was hungry for pain. Deep in the night I was hunting you. Treat my body like you want it to. Touch me, touch me, I want to feel your body, your heart beat next to mine.

I just learned the intro the Since I've Been Loving You, By Led Zeppelin. It is pretty much a bluesy guitar solo (Easily one of my alltime favorite songs, and solos). After learning that my fingers are way quicker (even though most of it is pretty slow except for a few parts). Also try learning the rest of Stairway to Heaven... I leaned the solo pretty easily (took a couple hours but I got it down pretty good) and I've only been playing for around 5 months so I'm sure you'd have no trouble. Also House of the Rising Sun, and Greensleeves are some great songs for the acoustic (although they also song great on an electric).
