Sultans of Swing rythm
I can't get the rhythm right on sultans of swing, or anything else for that matter.
My instructor said down down up down down down up, but it doesn't sound right no matter what I do. I downloaded the guitar pro tab, and singled it out, but I still can't get it. Also, where in the song is there a clear part with that rhythm, I can't hear it... I feel hopeless |

If you have the guitar pro file then you can isolate that section and loop it over and over
and even slow it down if you want. I would like to help you but I cant do any better than that, I guess if you posted the tab of the section you are working on then one of us could tell you how to stroke it. In GP you can export as a BMP image or text ect. I have several versions but I would rather work with the section you are looking at. It sounds to me like you need to get with your teacher and explain that you are having trouble with strum patterns. If you have not maybe you could get some basic strumming tactics down before moving on to songs like sultans. You mentioned that you were struggeling in general and that tells me you might want to step back at least for a short while. This is a game of inches like football, lol |

Where you see the notes that are tied together with the curved line over them, hold the strings and shake or bend them a little bit with your fretting hand for good sustain, more bluesy. Think maybe like whammy bar, though not really. Where you see the the musical rests, those 1/16 rests clamp down on the strings to kind of deaden the sound. Make it sound short, chopped off, more percussive. If you're strumming with your hand or if you're holding a pick use the fingers which are trailing behind on your strumming hand to cut off the sound of the strings - the middle, ring, and pinky.

![]() There is the file with the strum pattern in it. I also exported it at 80 bpm as a midi file so you cn listen. Here is the strum pattern in case you dont get the one in the chart D D U D U U U Just play this pattern with those two measures over and over with the midi file for a while. I chose Up up up at the end because they fall on the and. This is the most logical way to play these two measures together IMO Especially when you try it at the actual tempo.
