Smoke on the Water is a great one for sure, we ALL play it sooner or later. I'd also suggest:

Satisfaction
Ina Gadda Da Vida
Iron Man
Paranoid
Sunshine of your Love
Mother (Danzig)

How about the 1-IV-V blues pattern? Classic and fits SO MANY songs!

I think it's like this... Here's a me playing a movable F 1 4 5 in A. It's an example from a beginner. I hope I got it right?

Anyway, in A, the 1 4 and 5 notes == A D E played in an improvised progression and strum pattern in my example.
